Word to the Wise

I enjoyed working on the design elements of this little box. However, I did not enjoy the frustration of the "papermache versus pen" aspect. I bought two small boxes at Michael's the other day (made off-shore) and they presented the issue of not taking the Sakura ink very well. It felt as though the pens were going dry....but when tried on paper they were fine. In the end, I believe that the problem was the amount/type of glue used in the papermache and that the ink simply would not adhere to the surface. Other boxes have not presented this issue thus far. In any case, I had to redo most of the design with Glaze or metallic pens which had the same problem but to a lesser degree. Anyway, I would suggest buying ones that are a "cleaner" papermache, lighter coloured with a smoother surface than this one. The end result is still a cute little box and I guess that's the bottom line.

  1. Could you rough it up a bit with some not-too-abrasive emery cloth?
