Wabi-Sabi Box

I have a very wise sister (lucky me) who, when I told her my sad story of how many mistakes and problems I ran into while completing this box, gave me the time to complain (whine mainly) and then asked me to send her a picture when it was complete. Today, she gave me something new to ponder and suggested I call this box Wabi-Sabi. Not surprisingly, I did not know what that meant and I went on the hunt for its meaning........
Pared down to its barest essence, wabi-sabi is the Japanese art of finding beauty in imperfection and profundity in nature, of accepting the natural cycle of growth, decay, and death. It's simple, slow, and uncluttered-and it reveres authenticity above all.
Now, when I look at this little box, I will visualize my "trials and tribulations" simply as beautiful imperfections and thereby reach that Zen state of wellbeing. Any thoughts?

  1. yes... I've actually heard of this term before! Really love the star/flower designs on this one... and the cute round box in the previous post. They look really intricate and super pretty; nice work! :)

  2. Ah-so, very wise sister indeed! I've produced many projects over the years that are indeed Wabi Sabi in nature. Every trial and tribulation is an opportunity to learn, problem solve and create truly individual items.
